I’ve been toying with the idea of a new SWTOR fanfiction featuring Theron Shan (because I am WEAK) and an(other) Imperial agent, something a big more action-focused than my current work. Kind of a Burn Notice meets Hawkeye/Black Widow sort of deal, with Theron as disaster carnie Hawkeye and my Chiss agent as the Widow (not an actual crossover, ‘cause I’m not really into those, but more that sort of flavour to the characters). It’s more of a side piece (heh) as I’ve got the next two chapters of Immortals halfway written and the third one plotted out (I’m a bit burnt out on Dragon Age so I’m taking a break from Scars Beyond Counting although I’ve got the next chapter of that plotted out, too).

Not sure if I should work on it (sometimes taking a break to focus on something new helps jar new ideas into place) or focus on Immortals right now. Not sure how interested folks would be in a non-Theron/Vector/Miranza setup; I know sometimes people get uppity about authors who pair their “usual” characters with other people, like somehow that’s me cheating on these fictional people I’m writing about …

Annnnnd now I have five Word documents open on my desktop (two “Notes” documents for characters and plot points, one first chapter for the new work, two WIP chapters for Immortals) and nine different tabs open in Chrome, for research (and Tumblr).

Shout out to all my followers/reader/enablers. You da real MVPs!

Today in things I have already researched:

– what year did Arcann and Thexan attack Korriban? (3637 BBY, about a year after Revan’s death and a short while after the Invasion of Ziost – not a lot of wiggle room to set a story between Ziost and KotFE, but here goes nothing)

– what colour is Chiss blood? (red, according to Wookiiepedia; if anyone can confirm or correct that I’d greatly appreciate it, ‘cause it’s gonna come up)

– do the Chiss have any oaths or sayings, similar to “by the Force!” or “stars!”? (bless Star Wars RPG … not sure of the accuracy here, however …)

– how do I write a firearms aficionado when I know fuck-all about guns? specifically sniper rifles?

The things we do for love, man.

My “favorite” part of growing up/being poor is when you have some disposable income, even like 10 or 20 bucks, and deciding to splurge on yourself or even doing something unnecessary outside of base survival (Ie: Instead of getting a lot of cheap processed food “splurging” on a night out like bowling or going out to eat)

and then the moment it’s over or right before you click checkout, you get hit with this deep feeling of guilt and shame as you realize what that money could have gone towards. Or when later, always inevitably, you are in desperate need of money you can recall every “wasted” cent you spent.

It’s really disgusting that while I feel guilt over buying something as simple as a face mask, someone else can lose millions in the stock without even noticing.

it really is disgusting that things like bill gates not knowing the price of bread is endearing while me for once in my life placing the quality of life over survival is seen as living outside of my means. That living within your means is just code for just existing as a tool to make others money.

And this shit never fucking leaves you  either.  Seriously. I am in no way hurting now, I haven’t for DECADES, but every damned thing I buy that isn’t utilitarian in nature makes me think I’m being frivolous as fuck and a bad person.

I’m doing a run on my latest Imperial Agent (female Chiss, for all that extra blueberry goodness and hush I don’t have a problem I can quit any time I want to) and I’m only on Balmorra, so it’s still early days yet. I keep sending my crew out on crew missions, and they keep coming back with companion gifts that would be perfect for Vector Hyllus. Like, chill, guys, he’s still a few planets away, okay?

I mean, I’m super thrilled that my other companions are gearing me up to make the man love me, but still. Honestly. Chill. I have so many presents for him.

but like who started the idea that fanfiction writers are somehow bothered by enthusiasm for their work???? cause i see posts all the time like “do writers really want to talk with us about their fics? Do writers really want long comments? I dont want to bother them” and i just think its absolutely ridiculous????

ofc i want to talk to you about it, and would love to hear you go on about it. i took time out of my real life to write this stuff down so we could all share these characters!!! the idea that you’re bothering a fanfiction writer, a fellow nerd, is absolutely crazy

Personally I attribute at least part of this to the shift of fandom onto Tumblr platform. Because of the way Tumblr works, multiple replies and reactions can get cluttered and overwhelming really fast, so leaving replies and feedback can be awkward. I have actually seen ‘tumblr etiquette’ posts going around scolding people for adding commentary onto posts when they reblog it! Actually discouraging  people from reacting and adding their own words!  If any of this attitude spills over onto fanfic posts and reblogs, no wonder readers are shy about adding their own words to an author’s posts.

Dear fans on tumblr:

WE, THE AUTHORS, REALLY WANT TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS.

This really bothers me as well – “I have actually seen ‘tumblr etiquette’ posts going around scolding people for adding commentary onto posts when they reblog it! “

Aren’t we supposed to interact?

thank you! ^^ I have been called out for commenting and reblogging. Some people seem to think Tumblr is just an art gallery with art gallery rules. This is SOCIAL MEDIA people. If you don’t want interaction on a post, then all you have to do is state #no one interact. That’s all it takes.
