the venn diagram of ideas i have and content i’ve produced is two separate circles
I’ve been toying with the idea of a new SWTOR fanfiction featuring Theron Shan (because I am WEAK) and an(other) Imperial agent, something a big more action-focused than my current work. Kind of a Burn Notice meets Hawkeye/Black Widow sort of deal, with Theron as disaster carnie Hawkeye and my Chiss agent as the Widow (not an actual crossover, ‘cause I’m not really into those, but more that sort of flavour to the characters). It’s more of a side piece (heh) as I’ve got the next two chapters of Immortals halfway written and the third one plotted out (I’m a bit burnt out on Dragon Age so I’m taking a break from Scars Beyond Counting although I’ve got the next chapter of that plotted out, too).
Not sure if I should work on it (sometimes taking a break to focus on something new helps jar new ideas into place) or focus on Immortals right now. Not sure how interested folks would be in a non-Theron/Vector/Miranza setup; I know sometimes people get uppity about authors who pair their “usual” characters with other people, like somehow that’s me cheating on these fictional people I’m writing about …
It’s been a while and I’ve been doing really well so I decided to do another giveaway, this time Rishi (ish) themed and includes more than I typically give out at once. The person who wins will get everything listed below. You can keep and use or sell if you’d like (some of these are worth a bit on the GTN).
Star Forge server only (sorry). But you can always pick up on Star Forge and unlock in collections so that you can use these anywhere (apart from the dyes).
Rules – Rules? Where we’re going we don’t need rules. Just like or hit that reblog button. You’ll get one entry per like and one entry per reblog, per person (for a max of two entries) as to not kill people’s feeds. This isn’t limited to followers or mutuals but those who are followers or mutuals will get something extra.
Deadline is Sunday (8/19), 11:30 PM PST
Major Experience Boost (Increases all xp by 25% for 3 hours, cannot be combined with other boosts)
Superior Command Boost (increases cxp by 100% for 3 hours, cannot be combined with other boosts)
Stronghold Label: Pirate’s Roost (not a lot of these out there right now)
Ruddyscale Kowakian Monkey-lizard (of course I’m including a monkey lizard!)

Assortment of dye modules (black/deep red, dark red/black, black/deep blue, black/light gray)
I will reblog twice a day so I don’t clog people’s feeds. I’ll be using a randomizer to choose the winner.
Thank the Russo brothers for a) shooting outside in a real setting with practical effects not CGI, for going with a shaky cam that actually added to the sense of immediacy and wasn’t annoying as fuck.
Let me tell u what makes this scene so great. It’s the fact that Steve has a match, an equal. He mows down the goons on the Lemurian Star, escapes SHIELD HQ by fighting 15 people in closed quaters, jumps off a buliding and blows up a plane, then within hours he meets up with Natasha and survives a missle strike. He has no match, no equal in this world. That’s what happens when Batroc challenges him – this scene shows us that men think they can go toe to toe with Steve but they simply can’t.
And then this scene is a rare beast. It’s an action scene that is actually a character building scene. We saw the WS blow up Fury’s car and shoot him, but that could have been any common soldier. Sam could have deployed the mine. Natasha could have taken the shot a Fury. None of them could survive in no holding back fight with Steve.
Within seconds, Bucky has Steve off of him (usually if Steve is close enough to hit you, it’s game over for you), then disarms him and uses his weapon against him. Bucky dictates the speed and the path of the fight, and while Steve tries to attack, most of the time he is dodging. This tells us the audience, several things: a. Steve is in actual danger, b. Steve, judging by his face, is scared (remember what beatings he has taken up unitl now) and therefore c. for the first time in 3 movies, Steven Grant Rogers, Captain America, is not safe. The stakes are real. You are feeling the adrenaline Steve is feeling, even if you are not sure why. That’s what makes this scene a masterpiece.
As much as I agree this is the greatest fight of all time, part of me is still disappointed each time I see “goat fight” on my dash and it’s not accompanied by a gif of two goats having a tiff.
Additionally, when Steve puts someone Down they STAY DOWN, and we saw him win the elevator fight without using his full strength.
And then here? WS is like a yo-yo, he keeps popping back up. The camera barely acknowledges that WS gets hit, despite the fact that they are fairly evenly matched. But the camera Lingers in close shots as Steve takes the hits.
The cinematography and the editing change the audience view on the fight choreography, because while the fight is an even match? Steve is out of his comfort zone from the jump, and being physically pushed farther than any other fight we’ve seen him in. His body and subconscious are probably having a minor flashback because the only other times his body has had to work this hard was pre serum in back alleys. And Bucky usually has his back, which makes that reveal all the more devastating if you look at it through the lenses of someone with PTSD. That fight wrecks Steve emotionally, and it’s the first time (I think) that Steve’s “I can do this all day” attitude can’t keep up with his body. Because his serum strong body can keep going, but his brain just blue screened.
I have PTSD and asthma, and a life threatening asthma attack and panic attacks CAN FEEL THE SAME. The tightness in the chest, the gasping, the wheezing – add that into Steve’s body being worked hard?
What I’m trying to say is that there are Even More Ways that scene was done Right.
it sounds obvious to 99% of writers, but i’ve seen a couple of instances now where it’s not made completely clear to people that yes you can make fanart! all the fanart! and post it! so here’s a psa: go for it
It’s only happened once and it was amazing.
Yeah, I’m so beyond ok with this there are no words.

i dont think native english people realize how easy they have it at the whole writing fics things. Because for the rest of us, we have to come out of our way to learn another language well enough we feel comfortable writing in it. It takes longer for us to come up with words because we have to set our brain in that peculiar 2nd language setting, and knowing that no matter how good we can be in our native tongue we will never match it with english – or only after years and years of practice.
tldr;support your local non english native writer, make them feel supported and don’t shy on the kudos/comments/likes/reblogs
listen if y’all writing a fic in another language besides your native one i wish i could give you 50 kudos before I even read it
i see ‘disclaimers’ all the time like “please forgive me for my bad english” and i’m like forgive you??? I REVERE YOU
I legitimately don’t understand anon hate like you are literally just….giving them the last word? Like you’re setting up for them to have time to think of a great comeback and then post it publicly for everyone to see and laugh at your asinine comment. Not to mention that you’re limited to 500 characters while the other person can write eight paragraphs dragging your ass and all you can do is watch in horror or write yet another anonymous message which again gives them the last word. You’re literally setting yourself up for failure. What is the plan. I don’t understand.
