if you relate to having an idea for a story for 4 to 8 years with almost zero progress towards actually writing it down, clap your hands

whoops…

I tried to write Iron From Fire for six years and never got past the first quarter of the book, not once.

Then at the end of year six I sat down and decided I was going to write it from scratch, 1k words a day, through migraines and writer’s block and tears, even if it killed me.

I finished the entire novel in under four months, all 120k words. Two and a half years and three revamps later and its 160k words in total, almost ready to query. In the meantime I also self published the standalone novel I wrote after Iron From Fire, am in the process of editing a long novella, and have almost finished Iron From Fire’s second book.

Just because you’ve been carting around a story of years and years doesn’t mean you can’t knock it out of the park the moment you set your mind to actually finishing it.

Don’t give up on yourself. The right time to write is right now.

Not star wars in particular but like just shipping problematic stuff (the word problematic makes this seem like a joke buy I can’t think of a better one), so like for example someone who thinks it’s okay to to ship 2 fictional people together when it’s a minor/adult relationship is okay because it’s not real people is an anti-anti or pro-shipper, someone who doesn’t is an anti. There are like, other “things” too like shipping within families and abusive relationships etc

patchworkdk:

tracinyad:

Oooohhh :O Interesting!!! Then put me as strongly anti. Fictional things affect real life so much. There will be a lot of people seeing it and finding justification for their disgusting ‘kinks’. People might like reading that kinda stuff but I don’t ¯_(ツ)_/ ¯

Any shipping to do with any minor is a no-no (unless of course, the other person is a minor too, in that case, big age gaps) and so is abuse. There are a lot of ways to write violent themes without shipping someone with their abuser because there is ‘chemistry’

Antis don’t seem to draw a distinction between content that paints something in a negative light and content that paints it in a positive light, though. They instead seem to take a “don’t write about it at all” stance, which as a survivor, I strongly disagree with. Context is important, and a purity culture of unmentionables helps no one.

I prefer “deal with it, but don’t glorify it.” Like, if you want to write about what happened on Starkiller and how Rey coped with her trauma, that isn’t the same as writing it as a romantic meeting of souls. Antis that I have seen are unwilling to put the mental effort into drawing that distinction, and just don’t want anyone to write about what happened on Starkiller at all.

That’s not their call to make, especially since there are warning and ratings and filters to protect people who don’t want to read fic dealing with trauma or traumatic situations.

It’s like the right-wing Christians who can’t tell the Hunger Games apart from the actual Roman Coliseum, and so they want to ban the Hunger Games because it’s “watching people fight to the death for sport.”
